FAQ Interprétariat? interprétation? traduction simultanée?

Both terms are used when speaking about oral translations. Professional conference interpreters who use simultaneous interpretation methods or consecutive interpretation tend to use interpretation while translator-interpreters or bi-lingual guides will use interpreting.
Your company has tasked you with organizing simultaneous translation for an upcoming meeting with your Chinese vendors, your French clients, your Polish partners. You are organizing the company’s annual international convention. Your company is launching a new product in the international marketplace. Foreign journalists have been invited for the inauguration of a new cultural site. In all these situations, you can call on a multilingual meetings specialist.
ATI enables you to communicate with your partners in their native tongue so your messages are targeted and you can concentrate on your presentation and its content.
Whether an international meeting or conference, whether you need professional interpreters for several languages or one specialized bilingual interpreter, you will receive personal dedicated attention from one of our project managers.
A nice singing voice does not make one an opera singer!
And speaking a foreign language well does not mean that one can improvise being a simultaneous or consecutive or liaison interpreter.
Interpretation, much like operatic singing, is a demanding skill. It must be undertaken by trained, experienced interpreters with degrees.
The interpreter’s skill is not limited to knowledge of the language pair but more importantly also includes cultural knowledge of your interlocutors’ habits and customs.
How can I know which is the best interpretation solution given the layout of my multilingual event?
What type of interpreting matches my need?
How should I organize the interpretation assignment?
And what about the interpretation equipment rental? What services do you offer?
We have the answers to all your questions. Each request is a unique situation; it would be too lengthy to list all the possible configurations here.
To guarantee your event’s success, your dedicated ATI project manager will advise and guide you and offer personal advice.
Follow our advice before and during our service offer and you will quickly understand why our clients have been with us for over 20 years.
ATI has over 20 years’ experience in interpretation: the ATI translation agency knows the professional interpreters who make up the team, their services, their intellectual skills, their strengths and their weaknesses.
Over time, our interpreters have developed a well-rounded general culture which allows them to understand a speaker’s intentions. The experienced interpreter has developed a flexible, open mind when facing linguistic difficulties which s/he addresses serenely.
To cover complicated subjects such as international law, medical research, high tech, and more, implies specific knowledge and experience. Our interpreters often have two university fields of study: engineering interpreters, medical interpreters, legal interpreters, information technology interpreters,…
That has to be the question our interpreters are asked most often! Often the answer is disappointing: “English, German and French” or “Dutch and English”; most often two or three languages…
Some think that interpreters are polyglots. But truth is some of the best professional conference interpreters have mastered two to four languages. The interpreter must have perfect knowledge of his/her languages of interpretation along with the cultures that they convey.
During a meeting, the participants express themselves in a passive language (the speaker’s language) for which the interpretation is conducted. With headphones, the participants then follow the debates in active languages (the translated languages).
The source language, the speaker’s language, is perfectly understood and our interpreters will express the messages with precision in the target language (the language to which the translation is made) but with the necessary nuances and cultural sensitivity.
Why do you need the conference program in advance? Our agenda? Our PowerPoint presentations?
To guarantee you the best simultaneous interpretation services, our teams will prepare in advance. The interpreters will study the documents, prepare a bespoke glossary, familiarize themselves with your business jargon and the subject of your meeting or seminar so they will arrive prepared for the assignment.
Our teams of professional interpreters will respect the absolute confidentiality of your meeting and the documents that you will have entrusted to us. Our technician knows how to provide for a meeting’s confidentiality. All of our representatives have signed a confidentiality agreement before joining the ATI team.
Consecutive interpretation or consecutive interpreting consists in restituting a speaker’s proposals in another language. The speaker pauses after each phrase or concept leaving time for translation. The interpreter takes notes that will help to reformulate the speech precisely and completely into another language.
Simultaneous interpretation is made in a glassed, soundproof booth: the interpreter hears the speaker’s comments by way of headphones and s/he translates simultaneously into a microphone with no pauses. The listeners hear the interpretation through headphones connected to individual receptors so they can select their language and volume. Simultaneous translation offers considerable time savings with regards to consecutive interpreting.
Simultaneous interpreting, simultaneous translation or conference interpretation all refer to this type of interpretation.
Chuchotage as the name indicates in French is whispered interpreting. Also called elbow interpreting, it consists in whispering the translation for a small group of listeners, maximum 3, or it quickly becomes screaming! The translation is simultaneous but does not require any equipment.
Interpreters work in pairs, taking turns at the microphone so as to maintain a high level of translation performance during an entire day.
Conference interpreters relay one another every 20 to 30 minutes.
Have you ever tried to simultaneously repeat a TV newscast in full in your own language? You phase out after a few phrases. You are not quite as precise, or reactive, you forget phrases,… this is normal and that’s good news. You are human and not a robot!
Simultaneous translation is demanding work which requires both physical and intellectual stamina.
International retailers, European institutions, international event organizers, press conferences,… but also foreign vendors, commercial negotiations, guided factory visits,…
