Scandinavian languages

scandinaveLes langues scandinaves sont surtout parlées dans les pays nordiques de Scandinavie

The mutual understanding of continental Scandinavian languages is asymmetrical. As a general rule, speakers of Norwegian will understand the other languages while the Danish speakers in Copenhagen or the Swedish speakers in Stockholm will not.

Traditionally, the Scandinavian languages are divided into two main branches, western and eastern :

Western sub-group with languages such as Icelandic, Norwegian Nynorsk (Landsmaal), Norn, Rodi

Eastern sub-group with languages such as Danish, Norwegian Bokmaal (Riksmaal) and Swedish
